Birth Doula Services
The role of a birth doula is to offer physical, emotional, and informational support throughout the prenatal, birth, and immediate postpartum period. This includes helping prepare for birth with education about all of the choices in birth, helping to prepare a birth plan (including alternate options in case things change as labor progresses), education on comfort measures, exercises to prepare for labor, presence at the birth itself to support physically and emotionally, as well as to support individuals to advocate for themselves, and a postpartum check in to discuss the birth and help with any support that might be needed after. A doula does not impose any ideology on the birthing person, but supports them in making their own choices and advocating for themselves.
Dena is passionate about bodily autonomy; her goal is to help each person navigate their birth with confidence and dignity. She knows that each person will have different priorities, preferences, desires, and needs. She aims to help each person find the experience that would be more empowering to them and to work to support them to embody this experience. As the landscape of birth can be constantly shifting, part of the work is helping individuals navigating this changing terrain in accordance with their orientation. Drawing from years of experience with fertility, pregnant, and postpartum clients, Dena is able to offer experienced hands on support, and a wealth of knowledge about this process.

Lactation Support
Lactation Counseling involves education, evaluation, assessment, and recommendations to help resolve breast/chest feeding issues. This can involve prenatal education to help families set themselves up for success for their feeding goals, with continued support in the first weeks postpartum and beyond. This can also involve in person assessments to help families solve any potential issues such as pain with feeding, under/over supply, weight gain issues, or other breast/chest concerns related to lactation. Dena focuses on evidence-based solutions grounded in high level research and a physiological understanding of the science of lactation, while keeping in touch with the emotional and intangible aspects of the bodyfeeding experience, which can be different for everyone.
